I guess the news is out, KVHD has selected a new CEO. Details are great, if you like gossip. However, what I have confirmed is that there has been an offer given to a certain CEO type, and this person is on the work schedule for June 15.
The rest is left to our imaginations.
I would hope we get introduced to our new leader at the next board meeting on Wed. June, 3. Apparently, everyone wants to know who our new board configuration considers a qualified CEO. We've seen some doozies in the last few years, lets see what has changed.
Could I politely ask that the board meetings be moved to 6 pm from 5:30 pm? I think more people would attend if they had time to eat and deal with their children before the meeting.
Heard that the Skilled Nursing Facility had its annual Center for Medicaid Services survey. Heard that the "crack" (-head, -pot, -smoking; your choice) investigators from department of health services held the exit survey which was attended by a board member, a CEFO, quality control, CEO sidekick, and a few others.
No substandard care claims were found with no substantial deficiencies.
The final report will be available soon.
Who do we thank for this favorable news? I can tell you who we won't thank soon.
Also, just wondering why no one from KVHD Human Resources didn't attend the graduation for the CNA's at Cerro Coso College?
After so many excuses for not having staff or having staff but not the right staff, or whatever it's been, there was no one from the hiring aspect of the hospital at the graduation.
Hello? I understand Tracy Brown attended along with staff from Medical Records, but as far as I know, Human Resources must have been busy doing something else other than finding the invaluable CNA's.
There are many things I want to talk about before the next meeting. However, I maybe going in to "pick your part" (In Bakersfield) to have a few parts removed next week. But if I have to, I will be at that meeting in a wheelchair. Unfortunately, at the last meeting, because of medication side effects, I chose not to unroll my agenda that night.
But I'm almost ready...see you there and on the blog.
HIGH RISK HOSPITAL: Healthcare and politics don't mix or when they do you get elder abuse, bullying, short staffing, misinformation, medical errors, discrimination, billing anomalies, and ALWAYS promises of change...it's the notorious Kern Valley Healthcare District

The angry bunch: what to make of it...
Some people love anonymity, because they can say things that they believe will never be connected to them or their motives. It's like flipping someone off on the freeway and speeding off.
I want everyone to know that I welcome criticism in my life. If it's sincere I always give it consideration.
But then there are people who have found a voice they don't use at home or work, but save for posting on public forums where they can feel and be anyone they want. I'm pretty much what you read is what you get.
Below is "Opie" who has much to say about me and my methods. This person, male or female, well hidden, complains bitterly and with a superior tone.
I thought I would put this up, because its an example of some of the dynamic occurring around this hospital right now as many things have changed at the top. It's so divided at this point, and maybe its time to realize those who are not playing games have a true interest in what happened and is happening.

" More to Laura: Look at your own blog and tell me how you differentiate between a constructive point and a snide remark; (Well, they are one in the same) the snide remarks win out ten to one, and trash what might otherwise be a respectable work. (Is that your respect, because its been helpful to others) It’s beyond me how any of you stupid, sniping children (Wow, you must be a great person Opie, as we are all just stupid.)can ever hope to create an environment where any kind of healing might be possible.(You're helping so much with the healing aspect, the negativity is right on) You’ve lost the public’s respect, and rightfully so. I wouldn’t trust you with a hamster, much less a family member. "
(Now, now, you're making me mad; a hamster! I could handle a hamster. Aren't they microwavable?)

" To Laura: Who said only two people are accountable? (Umm, it's three according to the state attorney general) And why should you be arrested, unless you’ve committed a crime? It took three criminals (by which I mean people who broke the law—is that clearer?) to abuse, even murder, those helpless old people, and a whole slew of onlookers and overseers to accept the crimes as workaday routine. (Kind of like a holocaust maybe?) Some of those onlookers, yourself included, are currently filling these pages with petty, stupid sniping; just look at your own most recent post to Area Republican, and tell me what motivates you other than puerilism. " (Well, do you read your own posts? What motivates you other than ego? Oh, the answer to your question, I really just enjoy those peurile moments. They help me de-stress.)
Opie, if you wish to take your shots feel free to do what you're doing. I think we all have figured out why I'm doing what I'm doing, but what is your motivation? I'd really like to know. This is apparently making you angry, what can we do to help?

Thank you to KVHD ER
Well, as a regular customer of the healthcare district, I found myself in a situation over the weekend where I experienced a very painful situation. I could hardly speak when I called my friends at 911 and told them to come get me now!
As I writhed in pain, my house filled with those familiar faces from the fire department and ambulance service. I should just have them sitting out in front of my house I think.
One of the hostile people told me they would transport me only to Bakersfield. That sentiment was overidden by the paramedic who could see I would not quite make it to Bakersfield without some trouble.
And I agree. I realized at that moment, there was no way I could get down the canyon by ambulance or Landrover, mule train or whatever, I was in too much pain to be jostled.
So, I went to our hospital I so fondly speak of on the blog. Pretty scary.
But I came to a conclusion, we absolutely, positively, need this hospital to function and grow with the community. And whatever measures need to be taken to make this happen, I will be there.
I want to thank the people who helped me that night and who showed compassion as I cried like a baby. A friend who had a similar condition said she screamed and passed out. Me, I cried and cried, and cussed a bit too.
The doctor was attentive or scared I don't which, but he and staff showed me they could be impartial even with me. And I am relieved that they were there and available that night.
Unlike a visit in 2007 when the heat was on and nobody was to speak to me, I came in to the ER with a severe head injury. If you think I'm hard headed, you are right. I bent the metal rail of a bath tub with my face.
I was covered in blood so they didn't know who it was at first. Then when they washed down my face, the two nurses stepped back and said, "it's the reporter."
Needless to say I ended up with no care and fixed my own wounds at home. I had to put a piece of my nose which fell out back in place and staunch the bleeding from between my eyes.
So, I have my own personal stories which have yet to be told.
But, when I feel something is done well, I am anxious to praise. And I thank you KVHD staff and doctor for your care.
You are critical to this community; we need each other.
