Last night, Monday Aug. 24, we saw the first of what I hope will be several town hall meetings regarding the issue of Healthcare reform. As Dr. Robert Gross, DO, said before the meeting it's about insurance reform, the delivery and cost of care.
Many of us are confused, as to what should and shouldn't be reformed, and the public came out and expressed their concerns.
A lot of people, teachers, doctors, residents of the valley, got a chance to talk about their thoughts, opinions, and fears.
I was impressed that it wasn't a political debacle, and more about sharing.
We will cover the story in full on our new site: Your government, your problem: an owner's manual. http://yourgovernmentyourproblem.blogspot.com/
The story should be up tonight. Thank you all who organized and everyone who spoke.
(Oh, there was one person missing, the mouth that knows it all, our very own radio jockey, and KVHD board member, Bob Jamison. We will put a call into him and find out what stopped him from getting to the meeting. I'll call it, "What about Bob?")
HIGH RISK HOSPITAL: Healthcare and politics don't mix or when they do you get elder abuse, bullying, short staffing, misinformation, medical errors, discrimination, billing anomalies, and ALWAYS promises of change...it's the notorious Kern Valley Healthcare District
Persistance and Tenacity, requires a new chapter, a new beginning....

Town Hall meeting on Healthcare reform Monday, Aug. 24, in Lake Isabella
Oh, Mr. McCarthy, Senatorial sage, you can have your Bakersfield Town Hall bash, but we're having one here in the Kern River Valley. And since we have had to fend for ourselves to reform our own local healthcare, what a good thing it is. (Okay, Senatorial Sage just sounded good, I couldn't find anything to go with Congressional. Wonder why?)
Here let me find the article about it in the local paper. Hmm, let's see, someone was busted, singers, a few ass kissing stories, where is it?
Well, I guess the paper has other things to do than worry about your healthcare, so I'll tell you about it. (like we didn't know this already)
Dr. Robert Gross, DO, Kern Valley Healthcare District physician and board member will be debating...Oh, jeez, "tower of power" radio jockstrap, Bob Jamison.
The Town Hall meeting will take place Monday, Aug. 24th, at 6 pm, at the senior center in the veteran's room.
And we will be covering this as our first story on our new blog: "Your Government, Your Problem: an owners manual." http://yourgovernmentyourproblem.blogspot.com/
It's an important issue, frightening to many, so come out and let's all get more information. I'll see you there. (Well, if my health is in order I will)

I would like to add here, that this discussion regarding healthcare reform is far too important to turn into a political melee. Politics seems to be divisive, whereas discussion of issues can bring about important change.
My hope is that we all turn out for this event regardless of our political affiliations or feelings. Set them aside for when your father-in-law comes over and you need something to argue about. Just a thought.
