Group forming to oppose property tax hike (GOB) for the Kern Valley Healthcare District: Aug. 11 deadline for in favor and rebuttal arguments

As the smoke settles from the KVHD special and regular board meetings, the damage can now be seen clearly on video...donations are being accepted, demanded?

  • KVHD board votes to put property tax increase on ballot
  • Community tax money could get caught in KVHD legal and criminal problems
  • Board could not explain the election document they voted on and offered no clarification
  • speakers from community upset about $15000 survey, one person called 3X
  • Board voted in raise for new CEO 5% after claiming they need money from taxes
  • Chairwoman of board argues that money wasted by CFO Chet Beedle as justification for raise for CEO.
  • Chairwoman knows of financial waste, blames CFO, no action taken to remove CFO
  • I was made to justify pulling an item from consent agenda as it's on the front page of the agenda that any community member may pull an item for discussion, but board members didn't know of community's rights to disclosure. I pulled the minutes from the very special board meeting a week before the regular meeting.
  • New information ordered regarding "Construction committee" board member Bob Jamison created three years ago. Jamison paid as Chairman of committee. Hospital denies there are minutes to the "informal" committee. Jamison, who just voted for a tax increase, chaired this committee and was paid. What did they do and who did they give it to?
  • Information that KVHD in 2008 paid $25,000 to defend former KVHD CEO, Pam Ott, against criminal charges. No monies were paid for the other three defendants. Ott will be in court later this month on elder abuse charges.
  • What can and can't we believe at KVHD? Is there or is there not as was reported two months ago, a new program for rape victims at the hospital? Did the hospital just make a horrible mistake this weekend with a victim?
  • Will the hospital put up a clear picture of what they would actually be doing with the monies from the tax increase on the ballot or will they hope voters will not understand, such as the board itself and the people asking for clarity at the last meeting?
  • Kick out the government: privatize the hospital?

As I said, the hospital can choose to be transparent regarding the tax monies "intended" trajectory, which has changed several times over the last two months since the hospital threw together plans.

All they have to do, and noticably didn't do, was put up an "in favor" status on the voting ballot, then any of you who disagree could then put your rebuttal argument up on the ballot.

This is contigent upon the board. But the board has to vote to take action, and their actions were loud and clear at the last meeting: we will do what we will do. (See "President Obama would be proud...")

Do you understand this ballot? Do you really know if this is a fair representation, because as of right now, this is all you're going to see in November?

“To improve healthcare in Kern Valley, build a new emergency room, meet current seismic standards, purchase mortgaged assets to reduce annual operating costs, and provide modern medical technology, including cardiac, ultrasound and radiology, shall the Kern Valley Healthcare District be authorized to issue up to $22,700,000 in bonds at legal interest rates, with an independent Citizens’ Oversight Committee, annual audits, and provided no funds are used for administrative salaries?”

Wednesday, August 11 is the deadline for the hospital to put on an argument in favor of why it did what it did and for rebuttals from those in the community. Call the Kern County Elections Department at 661-868-3590.

Or can KVHD pull the bond down and wait? That was a question this morning and a good one at that.

This was sent to comments, which I have to check and moderate...if your comments have not been posted, please wait, they will. If there is a group wanting to get this GOB, please forward your email address and it will be posted such as the one below...

  2. if you are successful blocking the GOB. What are you going to do for health care? I have read all the " I'am going to B-Town or RC " that is fine if you have an hour, but what if you don't. Then you are dead! and if you plan to sell the hospital to a private buyer. First do you think a private company will buy the hospital with the amount of delinquent debut that they have already generated? How about the staff I would bet that they all will loss there jobs, most likely they will be told to re-apply and the new owners will then hire whom they want. Second if it becomes private for profit, stand-by if you have medical or no insurance you will be paying some up front cost. So you can all decide what you want if this hospital’s GOB does not go through I am out of this place for good. I will not live in a place where the DA's think they are doing a better job than the elected officials. And lets blame the CEO for Ten years of bad decision since he has only been here for 1 year hell who know where he was 10 years ago but he must have had something to do with all of the decisions made prior to his arrival.

  3. If they want 22 million dollars from us then i suppose we could get a whole new hospital. How about in Lake Isabella this time?

  4. The thing is that they are lying to us. First of all there has been no proper explanation of the finances. No accounting of grant money that they receive. No follow through on promises. Like the promise of rape kits and traini9ng to use them. I was at that meeting. I'm sorry but until we can have a proper accounting of what money we get now, I don't think they should be so quick to ask the community for more money when we haven't paid off the last bond measure. And they can't account for the money they get now.

  5. People that work on the Sun should get their story's correct. They lie to everyone. They make up what they think you should hear. I've had dealings with many newspapers from other areas and they only put in what the higher ups want the public to know. So you need to real dig deep and find out the truth and not read what trash goes in the SUN...Vote no for the bond or you'll be paying out your nose in taxes...look what happen to the City of Bell...they pulled the wool over the publics eyes...

  6. Really the CEO of the Hospital wants a raise. Come on the Hospital is going under. Look what happen to the City of Bell, the City Manager got a raise then retired. What has the CEO done for the Hospital. The one a few years ago took us for a ride and got a lot of money for doing it.
What a mess. The Sun covered up that story. Get the Board members and the CEO and the CFO out of there and start over with some honest people.
